Upcoming Diving Courses

June: Adventure Diver, Advanced Open Water and Specialties

I just purchased a DPV (Diver Propulsion Vehicle) and let me tell you--it's a scream to ride. I spent an hour in the pool at Dive Utah playing around with it. I'll be offering the DPV Adventure Dive in June as part of Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver training.

Dive Safety Encore!

Upcoming Dive Safety courses at Dive Utah:
May 17 -- DAN Diving Emergency Management Provider
May 31 -- DAN Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2)
May 31 -- DAN On-Site Neurological Exam for Divers
June -- Emergency First Response Instructor Course

Emergency First Response(EFR) covers Primary Care/CPR and Secondary Care/First Aid. Additional skills also include using an AED (automated external defibrillator) and emergency oxygen use. EFR is open to anyone interested in helping others and is not diving specific.

DAN Diving Emergency Management Provider(DEMP) is a comprehensive diving first aid course. DEMP includes Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving injuries, AED for Scuba Diving, Hazardous Marine Life injuries and Advanced Oxygen First Aid. It also includes 3 PADI Specialty ratings. Current CPR training is a prerequisite. Though diving-specific, this is also great for medical professionals and non-diving friends/family of a diver.

DAN Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen(REMO2) is a diving first aid course covering use of a medical rebreather to extend your oxygen supply when you are a long distance from the next level of care. This is the first of two courses on April 19th. Current CPR and DAN Scuba O2(covered in the DEMP course) are prerequisites.

DAN On-Site Neurological Exam for Divers covers doing a neurological exam for divers suspected of a diving injury. The Neuro course can also be a useful tool to help convince a diver that he may be suffering from Decompression Illness(DCI).

To cap off the month, become an Emergency First Response Instructor! Then you can teach others how to care for an unresponsive or ill or injured person.

IYOR International Year of the Reef

2008 has been designated the International Year of the Reef. This is a great time to take the Project AWARE and AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Specialties. You'll learn about reef ecology, how we impact coral reefs and how we can better protect these underwater rainforests.
PADI Diving Society members can also receive a free gift when they take an AWARE course. Contact me for more information.

Think you can't dive in Utah? Think again! Utah has some very unique dive sites. Blue Lake (in Utah, you just drive through Nevada to get to it) and the Crater (Homestead Resort, Midway, Utah) are both geothermal dive sites that provide unique dives you can't find outside of Utah.
