What is a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor? ![]() A PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) is one of the best trained entry-level scuba instructors in the industry. There are two tracks to become an OWSI. First, the most popular, is to take a full PADI Instructor Development Course(IDC). This is a 7-9 day course that encompasses both the Assistant Instructor(AI) and Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Course. Alternatively, as a PADI Assistant Instructor or Instructor from another agency, you can enroll in only the OWSI course (a 4+ day program). Upon completion of either track, you participate in a PADI Instructor Exam (IE). This is an independent assessment by a PADI Instructor Examiner of your knowledge, diving skills and teaching ability (classroom, pool and open water). During an IDC, the following topics are covered:
NOTE Starting in 2009, PADI is also requiring that new Instructors also be CPR/First Aid instructors. This provides you, the instructor, an excellent way to meet the CPR/First Aid requirements for your Rescue Divers. To meet this requirement, become an Emergency First Response(EFR) Instructor This is a two-day course that can be added to your IDC. Also, PADI is retiring the Wheel version of the Recreational Dive Planner(RDP). They've introduced the new eRDPML, which provides multilevel dive planning ability in a simple to use electronic planner. If you're used to the Wheel, you'll easily learn the new eRDPML. This change is covered in the "Teaching the RDP" section of the IDC. Contact Me to discuss scheduling options for your IDC. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Think you can't dive in Utah? Think again! Utah has some very unique dive sites. Blue Lake (in Utah, you just drive through Nevada to get to it) and the Crater (Homestead Resort, Midway, Utah) are both geothermal dive sites that provide unique dives you can't find outside of Utah. |
